Getting A Good CoS Job (link)

Updated: Dec 8, 2023

Be awesome. OK, perhaps you where looking for something a bit more useful than that.

There is no magic bullet here we are afraid. All the normal "how to get a job" stuff applies. Focus on what you want. Aligning your story and CV. Networking. Hustle. Applying to lots of roles. Befriending head-hunters. Good interview-prep. Demonstrated relevant experience. Right attitude. Charm. References. Luck.

Just remember with the CoS role the personal connection with the principal is key. And that takes time to mature. So most often CoS roles either start focused as trust builds, and/or are hired from somebody the principal already knows.

Given this I suggest you ask these questions during your interview process:

  • What direction do you wish to take this business?

  • What are your personal and corporate values?

  • Would you like to work on everything jointly, or will you want to assign specific tasks to me? Will I be a supplement to you, or a continuation of you?

  • What are your weaknesses? What abilities are you attempting to hone?

  • What does a perfect day look like for you, and how can I help you get there?

  • Have you got a personal assistant -- as the CoS role is not focused on that aspect of the role? Will they report to you or me?

All set... Go for it!
